NEW SHAPES SXSW 2013.

With SXSW around the corner, we're teaming up with Ultimate Ears to bring you yet another jam-packed New Shapes day party to get involved with. Last year, we had Charli XCX, St. Lucia, and HAIM to name but a few, and we're taking it back to the Red Eyed Fly for another two stage indoor/outdoor extravaganza again this year. Outside, we've got Kodaline, Wardell, Ambassadors, and Michael Kiwanuka, in addition to our very own HAERTS and the inimitable Sky Ferreira in the headline slot. Inside, we've got London's Jamie N Commons and Swim Deep, Canada's Half Moon Run and our beloved Neon Gold allstars Wildcat! Wildcat! and rounding things out. Plus complimentary Vita Coco and open bar cocktails courtesy of Western Spirits ALL DAY LONG. It's all going down next Thursday, March 14th from 12-6 at the Red Eyed Fly, with RSVP now open HERE: http://newshap.es.

NEON GOLD PRESENTS: NEW SHAPES // CMJ 2012

Another year, another CMJ, and that means another star-studded double-decker New Shapes blowout at Santos Party House. If you were on the front lines with us last year, you experienced the US live debut of Gotye and oh so much more. And this year - as always - we're looking to go even bigger, as we team up with our UK brothers-in-arms, National Anthem and Chess Club, to bring you the show to end all shows Thursday night at Santos.

Upstairs, we have Brooklyn heartthrobs Lovelife, synth-noirists Citizens!, electro-superstars Strange Talk, UK stadium-indie rockers Morning Parade, and west coast supergroup extraordinaire JJAMZ. This all before headlining beauties Icona Pop shut it down in the coveted headline slot, an honor claimed by Gotye, Grouplove and Theophilus London in years past. Downstairs, we've got newborn ruffians Busy Living, Brit-crooner Gabriel Bruce, jungle-pop Aussies Jinja Safari, and west coast sunkids Pacific Air and Blondfire, before Sky Ferreira and Capital Cities closing the night out in style.

All this for the impossibly low price of $5 advance, $10 day of show, plus free entry for a limited number of CMJ badges (so arrive early!). Mark your calendars for 6pm sharp on October 18th and get your advance tickets HERE, this is one for the history books.

CROSSED THE LINE AT NIGHT.

Finding their niche somewhere between the star-crossed dual vocals of Stars and the massive hooks and pop production of Sky Ferreira, DWNTWN's debut single "Transition" comes off like a radio-friendly pop smash masquerading as an accessible indie floor-filler. Beginning innocently enough, eerie droplets fall from the upper octave onto the dashboard as the female vocal shifts gears, adds a male passenger and goes from 0-100 in 8 seconds flat. Shining a light on that tragic post-relationship grey area, the single debunks all conventions of what is and isn't chart-worthy and vies for the stars and nothing less.

The blunt jungle beats and cross-hatching sonic flourishes absorb the brunt of the heartbreak lodged deep in the verses. While DWNTWN lacks vowels, the track achieves supersonic consonance, marrying a Top 40 prechorus reminiscent of Sky's "ONE" with an ethereal chorus flaunting ice cold synths that sound as if they crash landed from the uncharted planet of M83. It's a big track, and with the incomparable DJ Skeet Skeet (y'all heard his new Foster The People remix? FUEGO.) helming the ship on the management side of things, you can expect to hear a lot more out of these two in the months to come. Get familiar.
